Farve is gonna have a big season if he plays in green bay, and an even bigger one if he plays in Minn. so he should be on the list somewhere
Great call with Chad Pennington being a sleeper, with their upgraded o-line and new pass catching TEs in their west coast O, it could mean a big year for the Jets

As editor i should've prefaced..this article was sent in prior to Favre's reinstatement. I'm sure Sanz will address this at a later point. Off the top of my head, from my discussions with him, you would see Favre in the 6-12 range.

Thanks to my colleague Floyd for pointing out the obvious. Since Favre was only reinstated the other day, my rankings were submitted BEFORE his official comeback to the NFL. It's a simple rule when ranking players - choose only those that are still in the league....or else I'll put Dan Marino and John Elway somewhere in my top 10. I wasn't about to predict if or when or where Favre wound up. I'm making a fantasy analysis, not reading a crystal ball. But if I DID have a crystal ball, it certainly wouldn't be in Minnesota. The crystal ball or even common sense would tell me that there is NO WAY Favre winds up in Minnesota, the ramifications are endless and I don't care what you read about in other columns or websites about the Packers considering it - there is NO CHANCE - ZERO that he is traded to Minnesota or Chicago. With that being said, now that he has been officially reinstated, I will state that Favre's numbers (assuming he stays with Green Bay) will fall somewhere between Jake Delhomme and Matt Schaub. My reasoning is fairly simple. To expect Favre to come in and put up the numbers he did last year is...well...dumb. His numbers last year were a bit higher than prior years and now he's even older, hasn't been training as much (though I'm sure that high school in G.B. was tough on him), and I would expect G.B. to put Rodgers in games where G.B. was either getting crushed or up by 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Like Delhomme and Schaub - you are not going to get 16 full games out of Favre this year, and that's even if he starts every one. He'll have some great games, some mediocre games and in the end - you'll be looking at around the top 15 or 16 best fantasy quarterback. If you select him as your number 1 quarterback, you will be sweating every week and I like my top qb to be more of a sure thing. I've spoken my peace - feel free to keep the comments going.

I know I'm going to take some hits for my sleeper now that Favre has been traded to the Jets. Obviously, this changes things and an update will be out shortly. Look for Favre to be in the rankings around 13 and Pennington to fall completely out until he is released and picked up by a team like the Vikings or Ravens. The new sleeper update will be up in the next few days - all I'll say is that I'm staying in the AFC and its not as big a reach as Pennington(How could it be).

Sanz I can't wait for your next sleeper. Hopefully ur right this time. However, can't I just draft Pennington late in a fantasy draft and then trade him to someone in my league who isn't too bright and doesn't pay much attention to the NFL for a solid RB or WR?

I would definitely not have Matt Hasselbeck as #7 on this list. His back is hurt. His offense is shaky, at best. Yes, he is a very good quarterback, however, his current circumstances fill me with bad vibes for this season. He'll still have a decent year, but not nearly as good as Roethlisberger, Phillip Rivers, or Eli Manning.
Matt Schaub would be a savy pick for a sleeper QB. If Andre Johnson is healthy, he is one of the best WRs in the league. Owen Daniels is a complete stud. Running game is not great, but decent. If the O-line can hold up, look for him to have a pretty good year.
More coming later, I'm sure.

Well Mortal - I have to agree...upon closer examination, which means watching some preseason and following the injury list, I Hasselbeck has been dropping like a lead weight in my rankings. Unfortunately, we haven't gotten to a point yet where we update the rankings on a daily basis. I am hoping to release a final rankings for all positions before the start of the season. Since you mentioned Hasselbeck, Rivers, Rothlisberger, Eli, and Schaub I will put their rankings below. Rothlisberger = 7th Rivers = 10th Eli = 12th Schaub = 15th Hasselbeck = 16th
As you observed, with his injury and lack of running game, this could be a long year for Hasselbeck. I'm also not comfortable with the receiving core at this point with Engram and Branch not playing in the preseason. Burleson is a good receiver but has proven in Minnesota that he is not a number 1 receiver.

I'm not a fan of his receivers, either.
One thing I will add, though. I'm a fan of J.T. O'Sullivan. Call it what you will, the guy has shone in the preseason, and looks to have the offense down. Frank Gore is a stud. Vernon Davis is a huge target in the end zone with his ridiculous athletic ability. Receivers are solid enough for J.T.O. to have a pretty good year, in my opinion. Martz is always creative with the offense, too.

You might like O'Sullivan but I assure you he won't be a top 20 passer. The receiving core is marginal at best - even when u consider the addition of Rams castaway Isaac Bruce. I like Gore but smart defenses will be zero'ing in on him. I'm sorry but Vernon Davis is the most overrated TE in the league. Maybe he will FINALLY breakout but so far, in his young career, he's been a dud. He's a huge specimen - ala a David Boston or Chris Chambers but...look at his numbers. If you want to say the low totals are due to injuries then I'll say thats another reason to not overrate him - he's injury prone. O'Sullivan might suprise but will still be no higher than a number 3 QB at the end of the season. S.F. still has more line and receiver work before it becomes a respectable offense.
Side Note - Eli has looked pretty good in the preseason. Maybe I should change that bust pick?
