((just as a quick note, for people starting threads, please add a spoiler warning in the topic title. I know we don't have this in a forum TOS yet, and by 8.4 we will, but until then, yeah...thanks!))
Onto the movie...holy...fucking...shit.
I have a few movies that are my Holy Grails, such as V for Vendetta, The Matrix, The Pirate movies, Gone in 60 Seconds, The Fast and the Furious, etc. etc., and Batman Begins was on the edge of that list, but wow, The Dark Knight totally blew that away...
Without a doubt one of the best movies I've ever seen. Period. It's a damn shame that a "proper" sequel will be impossible.
My one complaint, that Rachel was played by a different and far less attractive actress. But she died anyways, so whatever.
I honestly give it a 10/10. The one reason I won't watch it over and over again as much as I do some of my other favorites is that it really is a very, very long movie. However, when it's as good as TDK was, this works in the movie's favor.
What do you guys think about a sequel? Will it happen? (Duh?) I guess the better question is what direction will they take it...
An interesting note if you recall, was when it was mentioned that Batman's new suit was not only dog proof, but cat proof as well...perhaps Cat Woman is going to make her debut next?
Damn...I'm really still surprised at how great this movie was. How often does something truly live up to the hype these days??
Two thumbs way up...

I have had this convo ad nauseum with all the peeps. I agree with most of what you said Meezie F Babie. I think they hurt themselves with the way they ended it. I'm going to guess that what we saw is what was originally intended. But looking at it in July 2008, they've lost both main villians from the movie. I thought they'd keep Two Face alive in light of the circumstances, but I suppose art triumphed over the corporatti and the door was left open to another Joker movie - which can now never happen. As long as this is a Nolan/Bale franchise, no one can play the Joker. Ever. Under any circumstances. HLs performance was redic. And I mean that in the purest sense of the word. As for the future...I've discussed this with the peeps as well (and being a screenwriter myself, okay wannabe) and came up with a few solutions. (Note: I'm assuming that people are versed in Batman history. If not you can wikee any of this ish for yourself.) I want to do the Bane/Azrael stories (The Sword of Azrael and Knightfall). You can make two movies and have a lot going on. It's another step in the evolution of the character, though Nolan's Batman is BW finding how to be Batman. However, to best do the Knightfall storyline, you need to introduce all the villains. So I started to think that the next flick should feature the Riddler in a storyline cross of Hush and then Long Halloween. (In the Hush portion, I'd use the Rutger Hauer William Earle in lieu of Dr. Thomas Elliot and Mr. Reese from TDK to feed Riddler the info on who Batman really is.) That there is 3 more movies. Sorry if I went over your head. But if you didn't get that ish, look it up and enjoy the reading. And before you ask - Yes, I do know that I'm a complete tool...

Just an aside - they never confirmed the death of Two Face...so I seriously think he will be back in some capacity, however...out of the public eye. They did bring Scarecrow back for like 2 seconds in this movie...
Also, and I won't take credit for this cause Ian gave me the idea, but maybe there is a lot of unused footage of the Joker lying in the cutting room floor, perhaps it can be edited to show that the Joker is still around, in jail / psych ward, but they can edit it to show he's still nuts / maybe still in charge of things? I dunno...just a thought. It's crazy what they can do with computers these days, ya know?
I think it'll be the Riddler. J. Depp could play that role pretty well...what do you think?
Do you think there will be an extended directors cut on Blu-Ray (/ DVD)?
(Btw I will admit I am not up to date on all the stories surrounding Batman, but after the site is built I plan on seeing TDK again (sometime next week), so I'll have to catch up on my reading)

This movie rocked. Heath Ledger did SUCH an awesome job playing the joker, I fully enjoyed the entire thing. All of the little things were done so well in this movie, like some of the Joker's habits, like the little lip licking thing that made him look even more psychotic. The whole thing was just BALLER!
