Mods - please replace this if I'm in the wrong spot...
The GM is so close to getting this one right. But in the end he's come up a might short. Bronnie isn't going to the Knicks. He's going to end up with Jay-Z and the Nets in Brooklyn for black NY. He'll truly be the King then.
So I challenge you Mr. ForHire...how do the Nets get under to get Bron in '10?

Well the Nets have already gotten a headstart on the Knicks with the deals they made getting rid of Kidd and Jefferson. They will be under the cap in the summer of 09 and have the ability to resign Devin Harris. They also have some youth and will probably add another good youngster in next year's draft. They will have to make a decision on what to do with VC as they plan for the future (his contract goes all the way into 2011-2012). Even with Carter though the Nets should be in place to make a max offer to LBJ in 2010 after 2 (most likely) terrible losing seasons.
However clearing the cap space to get LeBron isn't the Nets main obstacle in my opinion. The real drawback is whether they will actually be in Brooklyn when the time comes or not. The opening of the arena and the move of the team continues to be pushed back and the last i heard it wont be ready for the 2010-2011 seeason. So in my opinion if you couple that with the fact that the Nets talent wouldn't be as alluring to LeBron as other teams, I would say LeBron to the Nets might not happen. Not even the best rapper alive can help here.
If everything does turn out well however, and it comes down to Knicks and Nets the question I would ask LeBron is would you wanna go to a team that just moved to a new city, is not as talented, has an underachieving coach or would you rather go to the Knicks (the most important team to the NBA) with a coach you know and like, MSG, better players (if i were in charge), and the unlimited stardom and attention you get for saving this darling franchise?
Don't the Knicks sound better to you?

See I'm of the mindset that he's going to Europe for 1-3 years after this contract expires. And that length depends on when the Nets move to BK happens. He's on record stating he wants to be a global icon. He's a money making machine. If he goes to a big Russian club, he'll make some ridiculous amount and bring the game to a whole new segment of fans. He'll have recognition of self and game beyond his wildest dreams. He'll win a 'chip and MVP (or 3) over there. Then he'll return to the US with Jigga in Brooklyn. He'll be right at the top of his game. And Mr. Carter can take the time to assemble a team worthy of a King...

Yeah this whole Europe thing could be a problem but I still am a little reluctant to say that any of these superstars would leave the NBA. My reasoning for this is that there really cannot be an owner out there that is insane enough to throw 50 mil a season at a player just for a chance to win (and I kno you're gonna say that having LeBron and all that comes with him on your team is good business, but still thats a lotta money out of ur pocket). I don't think thats good business. that person would have to be loaded and crazy to make a deal like that. But who knows that owner could be out there.
I also think that LeBron might still have something to prove in the NBA and won't just leave like that not to mention he'd have to think about whats best for his family too when considering moving them to a totally new country.
But yea if he does go to Europe then who knows what is gonna happen for him in the future after that. It's pretty much in all in the air.
However how long do the Nets have to wait for LBJ? How many seasons are they willing to tank just to keep themselves in position to acquire him in the future? These questions actually don't just apply to the Nets but any team that wants his services. Fans tend to get a little rowdy after 4 or 5 straight 25 win seasons. BTW I highly doubt Hov has any say when it comes to personnel decisions regarding the Nets roster unless it has to do with LeBron I guess.
